apdo

bile, gall bladder
Usage Note
Apdo refers both to bile (the digestive fluid) and colloquially to the gall bladder. In traditional Filipino medicine and everyday speech, the bitterness of bile gives rise to expressions about bitterness of character — someone described as having 'maapdo' (literally 'bilious') is considered bitter, mean-spirited, or vindictive. It also appears in medical conversations about gall bladder conditions.
