Usage Note
Empatso comes from Spanish empacho and refers to stomach upset or indigestion, often believed to be caused by overeating or swallowing food too quickly. In Filipino folk medicine, the alternate spelling empatso is sometimes attributed to supernatural causes and treated with traditional massage called hilot.
