Usage Note
Latigo is a Spanish loanword (from látigo) for a leather whip used for driving animals or, historically, for punishment. It appears in horse-riding contexts, historical narratives of the Spanish colonial period, and in the Penitensya — penitential flagellation practiced by some devout Catholics during Holy Week.
