Usage Note

Diyablo entered Tagalog from Spanish diablo through Catholic missionary influence and is used literally in religious discourse for the devil or Satan. In everyday speech it also appears hyperbolically — scolding mischievous behavior, especially in children — without always carrying full theological weight.
