Independensiya is a Spanish loanword (from independencia) used in both political and personal contexts to discuss freedom from external control. Philippine Independence Day on June 12 is formally called Araw ng Kalayaan, but independensiya appears in historical and academic discussions; in everyday speech, kalayaan is preferred.
