Usage Note

Ngalirang describes a state of extreme gauntness, dryness, or emaciation — applied to a person who has become skeletal from illness or hunger, or to objects that are parched and brittle. It carries a strong visual sense and can be used hyperbolically; it is more common in older or regional Tagalog.
