Usage Note
Sedula historically referred to the Spanish colonial-era cedula personal — a tax identification and residency document required of all adult Filipinos. The burning of cedulas was a symbol of defiance during the Philippine Revolution. Today the term refers to the community tax certificate (CTC) still issued by local government units.
