búnot

to pull out

verb BU-not Native origin Less Common

Usage Note

Búnot means to pull out or extract something — a tooth, a nail, a weed, or a sword from its sheath. The stress on the first syllable (BU-not) distinguishes it from bunót (coconut husk, stressed on the last syllable). The verb form is bunutin or bunuhin. It is used in both literal and figurative senses, as in 'bunutan ng ugali' (to weed out bad habits).
