Usage Note
Normal is a direct borrowing from English (or Spanish normal) and is used in everyday Tagalog across all registers. It is one of the most common adjectives in contemporary Filipino speech, appearing in expressions like 'normal lang' ('it's just normal') to downplay a situation or reassure someone. Its usage intensified during and after the COVID-19 pandemic with the phrase 'bagong normal' (new normal).
