Usage Note
Tipaklong is the Tagalog word for grasshopper, the common jumping insect found in rice fields, gardens, and grassy areas across the Philippines. Children often catch tipaklong as a pastime. In rural communities they are sometimes eaten as a snack (fried or roasted), and in agricultural contexts they can be crop pests.
