Usage Note

Mehiko is the Tagalog rendering of Mexico, spelled to reflect Spanish pronunciation where x becomes h. The Philippines and Mexico share deep historical links through the Galleon Trade (1565–1815), and many Spanish loanwords in Tagalog entered through Mexico rather than Spain directly.
