Usage Note

Amò describes the quality of being tame, docile, or gentle — used for animals that have been domesticated or trained, and by extension for people who are calm and unassuming. The verb form umamò means to become tame or to calm down, and it is also used affectionately in child-rearing to encourage a child to settle.
