Usage Note
Balubid is used to refer to certain large lizards found in the Philippines, most often the sailfin lizard (Hydrosaurus pustulatus), an endemic semi-aquatic lizard that can be seen near rivers in Luzon. The term is sometimes applied loosely to chameleons as well. These lizards are considered ecologically important and are protected under Philippine wildlife law.
