bátik

blemish, spot

noun BA-tik Native origin Rare

Usage Note

Bátik refers to a stain, spot, or blemish on a surface — skin, fabric, or reputation. It is used both literally (a birthmark or ink spot) and figuratively (a mark on one's honor). Note that 'batik' without a diacritic may also refer to the Javanese textile art, though that sense is a separate loanword.
