Usage Note
Kuwerdas comes from the Spanish 'cuerdas' (strings) and refers to the strings of a musical instrument such as a guitar or violin. The guitar (gitara) is enormously popular in the Philippines, and terms related to it including kuwerdas are part of everyday musical vocabulary. The word can also be used figuratively for a person who is easily manipulated.
