Madyong is the Filipino adaptation of mahjong, the tile-based game of Chinese origin. It is a popular pastime in Filipino Chinese communities and has spread widely throughout Filipino society, particularly among women who gather for social games. It carries connotations of social bonding, though extended sessions can also be associated with gambling.
