Arte is a Spanish loanword for art or creative skill, but in Filipino daily conversation it is most often used to describe dramatic, fussy, or overly particular behavior — especially in the adjective form maarte. Calling someone maarte can be playful or critical depending on tone, and it is one of the most common personality descriptors in casual speech.
