suplado
supládo with stress marks
snobbish or unfriendly man
Usage Note
Suplado is the masculine counterpart to suplada, borrowed from Spanish, and describes a man who is aloof, conceited, or dismissive of others — perceived as too proud to engage warmly. In Filipino social culture, where warmth and sociability are prized, being called suplado is a pointed criticism. As with suplada, the label is sometimes applied unfairly to men who are simply introverted or reserved.
