verb ta-li-KOD Native origin Rare

Usage Note

Talikod literally means to turn one's back, and figuratively means to abandon, desert, or betray someone — particularly at a moment of need. 'Huwag kang talikod sa iyong mga kaibigan' (don't turn your back on your friends) is a common moral admonition. The act of turning one's back is culturally loaded as a sign of disrespect and betrayal.
