Usage Note

Ampon refers to a person who has been taken in and raised by someone other than their biological parents, a common and culturally accepted practice in the Philippines known informally as 'palaampon'. It carries no stigma; the adopted child is typically treated as a full member of the family. The verb form is umampon (to adopt).
