Usage Note
Asignatura is borrowed from Spanish and refers to a school subject or academic course. It is used at all educational levels in the Philippines, from grade school to university. While 'paksa' is the more native Tagalog term, 'asignatura' is the standard formal word that appears in school records, syllabi, and educational discourse.
