Puwera comes from Spanish 'fuera' (outside/except) and is used to indicate exclusion in a list or set. It frequently appears in the phrase 'puwera na lang' (except for that) or 'puwera ikaw' (except you). In folk superstition, 'puwera usog' is said as a protective phrase to ward off the evil eye.
