Usage Note

Sandugo literally means 'one blood' and refers to the ancient Filipino ritual of blood compact — where two parties mix their blood in a drink as a sworn oath of loyalty and friendship. The most famous historical sandugo took place in 1565 between Rajah Sikatuna and Miguel López de Legazpi in Bohol, and the event is commemorated annually as a festival.
