Seguro is one of the most versatile Spanish loanwords in Tagalog. As a noun it means insurance (buhay na seguro — life insurance). As an adjective it means certain or safe. As an adverb it functions like 'maybe' or 'probably,' making it one of the most common hedging words in Filipino speech.

Literal Translation

Literal Translation

There-is he/she insurance in life for the family.

" Hindi pa siya sigurado kung tatanggapin niya ang trabaho, kaya seguro ay magpapasya pa siya sa susunod na linggo. "

Natural Translation

He/She isn't sure yet whether to accept the job, so he/she will probably decide next week.

Literal Translation

Not yet he/she sure if will-accept he/she the job, so maybe will-decide still he/she on next week.
