Usage Note
Sumangga is the actor-focus -um- form of sangga, used when the person or thing absorbing or deflecting an attack is the grammatical subject. Central vocabulary in arnis and Filipino martial arts, it is also used figuratively to describe absorbing criticism or blame on behalf of another; the object-focus form sanggahin places the blow being blocked at the focus.
