Usage Note
Santabi is a traditional expression of courtesy used when passing by elders, sacred spaces, or spirits — a verbal or gestural acknowledgment asking permission to pass. It reflects indigenous Filipino beliefs in unseen beings and the importance of showing respect. In modern usage it can also be said ironically when making a provocative statement.
