tabernakulo

tabernákulo with stress marks

a tabernacle

noun ta-ber-NA-ku-lo Spanish origin Rare

Usage Note

Tabernakulo comes from Spanish tabernáculo and refers to the ornate container — usually a gold or silver box — that holds the consecrated Eucharist in a Catholic church. It also carries the biblical sense of a portable dwelling for God, and given the Philippines' deeply Catholic culture, the word is known to most Filipinos through religious education.
