Usage Note
Makapuno is a naturally occurring mutant variety of coconut whose interior is almost entirely filled with soft, gelatinous flesh instead of liquid coconut water. The flesh has a sweet, creamy flavour and is highly prized as a dessert ingredient. Makapuno coconut strips are used in halo-halo, ice cream, and other Filipino sweets and are considered a premium product.
