Usage Note

Timpi reflects the Filipino cultural value of emotional restraint and composure. To have timpi is to keep one's feelings in check even under stress, which is closely linked to the concept of hiya (social propriety). Losing one's timpi in public is considered embarrassing, and the word is often invoked when reminding someone to stay calm.
