Usage Note

Vakul is a traditional helmet-like head covering worn by Ivatan women in Batanes, the northernmost province of the Philippines, woven from the leaves of the voyavoy palm. It protects against strong winds and rain during field and sea work and is a recognized symbol of Ivatan cultural identity, declared a cultural heritage item.
