Bayani describes someone who shows extraordinary bravery or selflessness, ranging from historical national figures to everyday people. In modern culture, it is famously used to honor Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) as "Bagong Bayani" (new heroes) for their significant sacrifices for the country.
